2012 Audi R8 GT Spyder V10

The Audi R8 is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car, manufactured by Audi from 2006 until the first quarter of 2024. The car was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show in September 2006. The R8 shares its name with the Le Mans winning R8 Le Mans Prototype car. Initial models included the 4.2L V-8 Coupe and later the 5.2L V-10 Coupe. The convertible models, called the Spyder was first introduced in 2008, followed by the high-performance GT model, introduced in 2011.

This specific car is a 2012 Audi R8 GT Spyder. It is one of only 333 cars produced and one of only ten that came to SA! The car is finished in stunning white with black interior and has done only 28500kms from new.

The Spyder was based on the 2010 R8 GT Coupe and weighed 85kgs less than the normal Spyder. This was achieved by replacing many body parts with carbon fiber and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) parts. The drive train and suspension also underwent significant modifications. The R8 GT Spyder is differentiated by a black, single frame front grill with matte grey horizontal slats on the front air intakes. The front bumper also has two carbon fiber winglets on the corners and a double front splitter. Red GT badges on the front fenders, carbon fiber mirrors and a fixed carbon fiber wing at the rear further distinguishes the car. The rear bumper has massive round exhaust outlets, compared to the oval ones on the standard cars.

There are upgrades in the cockpit as well and the most significant features are the carbon fiber reinforced plastic seats and white dials with red needles. The uprated engine in the GT produces 412kW at 8000 RPM with 540Nm available at 6500 RPM. Top speed is 319 km/h, and zero to 100 km/h takes 3,8 seconds.
