The Porsche Boxster 987 was the second generation Boxster and was introduced in late 2004, with cars going on sale as from 2005. The revised 987.2 range was revealed at the 2008 Los Angeles International Auto Show.

The 987.2 cars had completely new engines. Power output was increased in both due to an increase in engine displacement in the Boxster and the incorporation of Direct Fuel Injection for the Boxster S. Both cars were now available with the 7-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox as an alternative to the 6-speed manual gearbox. There were a number of cosmetic and mechanical changes but the introduction of the PDK gearbox was by far the most significant improvement.
