2008 Porsche 911 GT2 (997)
The Porsche 911 GT2 is a high-performance sports car which started life as a “homologation” special in the early 90s. It was built to meet the requirements for Porsche to race in GT2 class racing and so it was named accordingly. Initially, the GT2 was based on the 911 Turbo using a similar twin turbo engine found in the 911 Turbo of the time but featured numerous upgrades to the engine to produce more power, bigger brakes and stiffer suspension. The GT2 was also stripped out and did away with the four-wheel drive system found in the Turbo in order to save weight. This made the GT2 the range topping, most hardcore 911 money could buy.
In 1999 Porsche had opted to begin competing in the GT3 class with their new naturally aspirated GT3 which meant the GT2 motorsport program was abandoned. Instead of the engine being based on the 911 Turbo, Porsche strapped twin turbos on the racing engine found in the GT3 road car. In 2007 for the 997 generation, this meant a power output of 390kW, a zero to 100km/h of 3.9 seconds, a zero to 200km/h of 9.8 seconds and a top speed of 328 km/h!
This specific car is a 2008 911 GT2 with 58,400kms on the clock and a full service history. Finished in Basalt Black Metallic with black leather interior, this car is a truly “mean” spec. A manual gearbox is standard and the only option you could have. Twin-turbo, rear wheel drive, manual gearbox, 390kW is a recipe for a truly raw and thrilling driving experience. What more could you possibly want?
