The Boxster was the first road car designed by Porsche as a roadster since the 914. The 987 generation succeeded the 986 generation and was introduced in 2005. The 987 was a major upgrade over its predecessor featuring more powerful engines and completely revised styling inspired by the Carrera GT. In 2007, the Boxster models received upgrades to their engines. The Boxster S featured the same engine found in the Cayman. The Boxster S went from a 3.2L to a 3.4L and received VarioCam Plus. The engine in a Boxster is rear mid mounted which gives the car a near perfect weight distribution and attributes to the impeccable handling characteristics of the Boxster.
