2004 Porsche Boxster S 550 Spyder (986.2)
The Porsche Boxster was introduced in late 1996 as a 1997 model. It was the first Porsche to be designed as a roadster since the Porsche 550 Spyder which was introduced in 1953. The name “Boxster” was derived from the words: boxer (referring to the engine layout) and roadster (referring to the body style). The early Boxster came with a 2.5L flat six, producing 150kW. In 2000, the Boxster S was released with a 3.2L flat six-cylinder engine, producing 185kW, while the engine capacity of the Boxster was increased to a 2,7L flat six-cylinder with 162kW. The 986 range had a facelift in 2002, before being replaced by the 987 in 2005.
This specific car is a 2004 Boxster S Special edition, also known as the 550 Spyder. Production was limited to 1953 cars, paying homage to the original Porsche 550 Spyder that was produced in 1953. By now engine power was up to 190kW and the 550 Spyder was also fitted with the M030 sports suspension option as standard. The cars were all painted GT silver with a unique Cocoa-brown all-leather interior as standard, or natural grey as a no-cost option. Other distinguishing features were 5mm wheel spacers, special interior paintwork, also in GT silver, a high-end Bose sound system, two-tone grey and silver 18-inch Carrera wheels and a Boxster S sports exhaust. The final touch was a plate on the centre console, showing the production number of the car.
With only 24 Boxster S 550 Spyders in the country, this is a rare example of arguably one of the best roadsters in the world, available at a very attractive asking price.
