The Mazda MX-5 is a lightweight two-seater roadster with a mid-front engine layout with rear wheel drive. It was introduced at a time that the two-seater roadster was a dying breed. The only similar car at the time was the Alfa Spider which was not even a direct competitor due to it being a lot more expensive. This made the MX-5 the spiritual successor to cars such as the MG B, Triumph TR7 and Fiat Spider.  The first generation was called NA, the second NB and so on.

The second-generation MX-5 NB was unveiled in 1997 and was produced up until 2005 with a revised “face-lift” being introduced in 2001. Though the proportions remained the same, the most notable difference between the NA and the NB was the removal of the retractable headlights due to more stringent pedestrian safety requirements. In 2001, the NB received a refined interior, new 6-speed manual gearbox and a revised 1.8L engine that now produced 106Kw.
