2004 BMW M3 CSL
The BMW M3 CSL, (Coupe Sport Lightweight) was a limited production car and was only available in two colors, Silver Grey Metallic or Black Sapphire Metallic.
As the name suggests this car was all about losing weight. At a curb weight of only 1385 kg the CSL is 110kg lighter than the regular E46 M3. This weight reduction was achieved by strategically reducing weight in certain areas or even moving weight around to maintain the ideal 50:50 weight distribution characteristics of the E46. A large proportion of the cars insulation was removed as well as electric seats and navigation. Air conditioner and stereo system was not standard but could be retrofitted at no cost. All body pieces are made from carbon fiber reinforced polymer. Glass-reinforced plastics are used throughout structural points in the car.
The suspension and brakes were also improved on the CSL. Specially developed racing springs and dampers were fitted to the CSL and a tightened steering ration improved the responsiveness of the car. Brake upgrades were mainly in the front with larger, floating discs and larger caliper holders, to accommodate the larger discs. Engine power from the 3.2 liter straight six engine is up to 265kW, or 355Hp with 370Nm of torque available at 4 900 RPM.
The lightweight body kit included carbon fiber front splitters as well as carbon fiber rear diffuser. A large hole on the front bumper draws cool air into the newly designed air intake. The boot floor was made from lightweight fiber-board and the boot lid was redesigned to incorporate a raised lip. The CSL was fitted with 19-inch lightweight BBS alloy rims.
The interior sported fiberglass front bucket seats as well as fiberglass backed rear seats. The center console, door panels and trim and the head liner were all made from carbon fiber. The steering wheel had only one button to activate the M track mode.
The CSL was offered with only the SMG 11 transmission with an electro hydraulically actuated clutch pedal, similar to a Formula One style transmission. Advanced software package allowed the CSL to make shifts in 0.08 seconds. Only 422 RHD cars were produced of which 65 came to South Africa, making this a very rare car!
This specific car is nr 27/65 and is finished in Black Sapphire Metallic. The car has 93 000kms and has been very well maintained and is in excellent condition.
A rare opportunity to own this limited edition of the iconic BMW M3.
