2001 Porsche 911 Turbo (996)
The 996 Turbo was released at the Frankfurt Motor show in September 1999 and was on sale in the second half of 2000 as a 2001 model. It was the first water-cooled Porsche 911 turbo and also the first 911 Turbo available with either a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic, known as a Tiptronic gearbox.
The 996 Turbo is powered by a water-cooled twin-turbocharged, 3.6 L flat-6 engine, derived from the 1998 Le Mans winning GT1 race car. It produces 309kW or 420 hp with 563 N.M of torque available. Zero to 100km/h take 4.2 seconds and top speed is 310km/h.
This specific car has done 104000kms from new with a full-service history by Porsche SA and Porsche Specialists. When the engine on this car was damaged in 2011, an unscathed, 462 hp engine from an accident 996 GT2 was fitted by Porsche SA. Upgraded brakes, a GT3 clutch, a short shift gear lever, full carbon fibre bucket seats, a GT2 rear wing and a special exhaust further accentuates the brutish nature of this, seemingly innocent 911 Turbo! The car is finished in Arctic silver with black leather interior. It is a six-speed manual and has the following factory fitted standard and optional extras:
- Sunroof
- Xenon headlights with washers
- Extended leather interior
- Cruise control
- On board computer
- Navigation system, and lots more
I don’t think any Porsche 911 Turbo has ever been referred to as a sheep, but this car is a wolf in sheep’s clothing! A special and thrilling 996 Turbo!
