The R107 Mercedes cars were replaced by the R129 SL, a Roadster produced between 1989 and 2001.It was a two-door, two-seater car with an electric textile roof. All R129cars also came with an aluminum removable hardtop.

The car was based on the floor plan of the W124 sedan and featured some innovative details like electronically controlled dampening as well as an automatically extending roll-over bar. The windows, mirrors and seats were all electric, not very common in a 1989 car!  It was also the first car where the seatbelts were attached to the seat instead of the floorboard or B-pillar.  The engine in this car is the mighty 5.0L 24-valve V8, producing 225kW or 302Hp.
