
1974 Ford Escort MK1 1600
The Escort is a small family car manufactured by Ford in Europe, spanning over six generations from 1968 to 2000. The Escort was frequently the best-selling car in the UK and more the 4 million Escorts of all generations were sold there. The Escort was very successful in various forms of racing and became one of the best rally cars ever produced. Several well-known drivers campaigned in Escorts, including legendary Rally World Champion Rodger Clark, who raced an Escort 1600 RS!
This specific car is a 1974 MK1 1600. The MK 1 Escort made its debut at the Brussels Motor Show in 1968. This car is far from standard and has had several upgrades done, including:
- 1600 Kent engine built by Clive Wilmot
- Weber 40 side draught carburettors
- Custom built exhaust manifold
- Bilstein shocks all round
- Recaro seats
- Engine strut brace
- Oscar Cibie rally spots
- Minilite rims and, the car is painted white with the famous blue striping, similar to Rodger Clark’s car!
