The BMW 02 was a range of compact executive cars, produced by BMW from 1966 to 1977.

The 2002 was introduced in 1968 and marked the beginning of the sports-sedan era. The 2002 wasn’t the only car of that time that combined spots car agility with compact sedan practicality, but it was instantly recognized as the best!

The name 2002 stands for “two-liter, two-door sedan”. To create the car BMW basically stuck a 2.0L engine into the 1602 bodyshell. The 1990cc M10 engine produced only 74kW but what the car lacked in tire-smoking acceleration it made up for elsewhere! Later models had more performance with the top of the range models being the fuel injection 2002 Tii and the much rarer 2002 Turbo.

This specific car is a 1972 2002 with a single downdraught carburetor. It is finished in Chamonix White with a dark blue interior. It is a matching numbers car and has done only 82 000 km from new! Although the paintwork has been done, the car is largely original with beautiful BBS style rims and a Personal steering wheel. It has been lovingly maintained and must surely be one of the cleanest 2002’s available in South Africa.
