1988 Porsche 944 S

The Porsche 944 was produced from 1982 to 1991 and received many upgrades and improvements over the years that it was produced. It was a front-engine, rear-wheel drive car and was available in a Coupe or a Cabriolet.

The 944S was introduced in 1987 and the “S” in this case was the abbreviation for Super. The car featured a high performance naturally aspirated engine with a capacity of 2.5L but the engine had dual-overhead cams with 16 valves, 4 valves per cylinder, which produced 140 kW. There were other changes to the engine as well, such as a self-adjusting timing belt tensioner, a larger capacity oil sump, magnesium intake tract/passages, a magnesium valve cover and a revised exhaust system, to mention a few.

The DME was upgraded to the Bosch Digital Motronic system and the car also received progressive springs for improved handling, larger front and rear anti-roll bars as well as a revised transmission and improved gearing. Top speed was 232 km/h and zero to 100 km/h took only 6.5 seconds. Not bad performance for a normally aspirated 4-cylinder car!

This specific car is a 1988 Porsche 944 S. It has been a one-lady-owner car for the past 32 years! The car has done only 87 800 kms since bought new from Peco Porsche in Cape Town. It has been well maintained over the years and is completely original. The car has never been in an accident and has never been painted.
