2004 Porsche 911 GT2 (996)
The Porsche 911 GT2 is a high-performance sports car which started life as a “homologation” special in the early 90s. It was built to meet the requirements for Porsche to race in GT2 class racing and so it was named accordingly.
In 1999, the 993 was replaced by the water-cooled 996 version of the GT2 which took two years to develop. By 1999 Porsche had opted to begin competing in the GT3 class with their new naturally aspirated GT3 which meant the GT2 Motorsport program was abandoned. Instead of the engine being based on the 911 Turbo, Porsche added twin turbos on the racing engine found in the GT3 road car. This meant a power output of 340 kW and a zero to 100 of 4.1 seconds. Zero to 200 took only 13.9 seconds and a top speed was 319 km/h! Astounding figures for 24 years ago making the GT2 one of the fastest cars money could buy, let alone the fastest 911.
This specific car is a 2004 911 GT2 and has done only 9100 kms from new. Finished in Speed yellow with black leather interior, this car is one of only two 2004 Porsche GT2s in South Africa. The 2004 cars came with carbon fibre rear wing and mirrors, as well as the GT3 style wheels. Carbon ceramic brakes were still standard, but engine power was up to 355 kW, improving the zero to 100 km/h time to a blistering 3,9 seconds! Around 50 Porsche 996.2 GT2s were produced, a handful of them in right hand drive, making this a very rare car indeed!
A great opportunity to purchase arguably one of the best 911 cars ever produced!
