1970 BMW E9 2800 CS
The E9 was a range of Coupes produced by BMW from 1968 to 1975. The E9 was based on the earlier 4-cylinder 2000C and 2000CS Coupes. The bodywork was enlarged to accommodate the new BMW M30 six-cylinder engine. Bodywork and styling were by Karmann.
The first E9 Coupes were the 2800 CS models. They were introduced in 1968. The wheelbase and length were increased, and the front of the car was redesigned to resemble the E3 sedan. Rear axle remained the same as in the 2000CS Coupe. The E9 2800 CS had a more powerful engine and weighed less than its predecessor, increasing the cars performance advantage. The 2,788 cc 6-cylinder engine produced 125 kW at 6000 rpm. The E9 went on to become a successful racing car, starting with a 3.0 L CSL winning the European Touring Car Championship in 1973 and a class victory in Le Mans in the same year!
