1985 Renault 5 GTL

The Renault 5 is a three or five-door, front-engine, front-wheel drive hatchback. It was produced over two generations of the car from 1972 to 1985 and from 1984 to 1996. It was also known as “Le Car” and became the best-selling car in France from 1972 to 1986. More than 5,5 million of these little supermini hatchbacks were produced in this 14-year period, making it France’s most popular car!

Mechanicals were borrowed from the successful Renault 4 with 4-cylinder engines ranging from 782cc to 1289cc in the first-generation cars. The Renault 5 was one of the first superminis, capitalising on the new hatchback design. It was launched well before other well know hatches such as the VW Polo, the Ford Fiesta and the Honda Civic.

This specific car is a 1985 GTL three-door car with only 28 000kms from new! The car is a one family car and was registered in the dad’s name after mom passed away in 2013. It is completely original apart from minor paintwork done on the right rear fender after a bumper bashing.
