The MGA replaced the MG TF 1500 Midget and was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955.

The car represented a complete break away from the earlier MG sports cars. They were produced from 1955 to 1962 and was replaced by the MGB.

The car was so different from the older MG models so it was called the MGA. There was a new in line 4 cylinder engine available with a four speed gearbox. The car had independent suspension and was available with either wire-spoke or steel disc road wheels.

The first cars had a 1500cc engine with SU Carburetors and produced 51kW but was soon uprated to 54kW. The car had drum brakes front and rear and both a roadster and coupe version was available.

This specific car is a 1958 Twin-Cam model. It has been restored to a very high standard, finished in Chariot Red with a beige interior. The car is fitted with a high compression DOHC aluminum cylinder head engine producing 108Hp or 81kW. Four-wheel disc brakes by Dunlop were fitted as well as Dunlop peg drive knock off steel wheels. The only other cosmetic change was the “Twin-Cam” logo on the bonnet and the boot of the car. Performance was much better with top speed around 180 km/h and zero to 100 km/h taking 9,1 seconds. Production ended in 1960 with around 2 100 cars produced.

This is a beautiful example of the legendary MG marque that produced MG sports cars for longer than 5 decades.
