1950 MG TD Midget
The MG T-Type cars were produced between from 1936 to 1955. It included the MG TA, -TB, -TC, -TD and the MG TF Midget models. The last model was the TF and that was replaced by the MGA.
This MG TD Midget was announced in January 1950. The car was still fitted with the 4-cylinder 1250cc engine, producing 40kW, or 54Hp. Most notable change were the 15-inch disc wheels, replacing the larger wire spoke rims on earlier models.
Mechanical improvements included independent suspension on the front axle, using coil springs. This improved handling and comfort. The car was fitted with a new four speed transmission and also the rack and pinion steering from the company’s successful 1 ¼ saloon car. Bumpers and overriders were now also standard equipment on the car. “All-weather protection” was good for the time and included the canvas roof, slide-in side windows and a tonneau cover.
This specific car is a 1950 MG TD Midget. It is a mostly original car in good condition, with some restoration work been done over the years. The car is mechanically sound with the original engine, gearbox and chassis.
Nearly 30 000 TDs were manufactured, with more than 28 000 of them exported of which almost 24 000 cars to America. This car represents a piece of British car history, a beautiful little roadster at a very appealing asking price!
