1977 Volkswagen Beetle SP
The Beetle is a two door, rear-engine economy car, designed to take five occupants. It was manufactured by Volkswagen from 1938 until 2003. It is officially known as the Volkswagen Type 1. Informally and affectionately it is known all over the world as the Bug. With 21,529,464 cars built, the Beetle is the longest running and most manufactured car of a single platform ever made!
The 1600 Beetle was introduced in SA in 1972 and in late 1976 the sporty SP model was introduced. The cars were available in bright red, yellow and silver and received sporty stripes, a front spoiler, wide tyres and a more powerful engine with twin carburetors and a free flow exhaust system. The interior was also sporty with red tartan upholstery, a sporty steering wheel and additional gauges, including a rev counter.
This particular car is a 1977 Beetle SP, finished in bright red. It is complete with all the SP extras as well as a rear window louvre! This car has been meticulously restored and has done only 400kms since the restoration!
This car is as good as it gets; a great opportunity to own an iconic VW Beetle in a “like new” condition!
